Jon Lester threw a no-hitter against my Royals last night.
I think it was the first no-hitter that I watched pretty much from the first pitch to the last, and I had weird feelings about it as it happened. I mean, the Royals were getting their ass handed to them, 7-0, but in the seventh and eighth I was cheering for them to break it up. In the ninth, though, I started to cheer for Lester, almost instinctively. And when it was over, I sobbed like a baby. And took a picture of myself.
What's the deal with the no-hitter? I thought that at some point the no-hitter took over the pitcher. Pitchers are, you know, supposed to give up hits.

but the biggest question is, how the hell do TWO of boston's BABIES end up throwing no-hitters in back to back seasons? ca-ra-razy.
and you look very sad in that pic. you can't really root against a no-hitter, unless that no-hitter is happening to yr team when in the playoffs or if they need the win to get to the playoffs. well, you can't root against the no-hitter, i think, in the 9th, anyway. i guess it's alright to hope for it to get broken up before then.
but it's pretty rad. they announced that at the a's game last night by showing the last batter on the big screen. i don't think the 200 people there noticed, though.
Maybe that's it, Smith, maybe the "reverse the curse" mojo worked REALLY well, better than any of us could have dreamed.
But actually I'm not SAD in the picture. The crying was sort of...I don't know, "Rocky 2"-esque or something. I was only rooting against it until the ninth, and it's not because the Royals needed the win so much. It was mostly because, look, this is NOT how I want my Royals to get press!
It was beautiful. I kind of want to find ways to download and watch no-hitters.
I also have never seen a no-hitter all the way thru. I think I've only seen them from the 6th inning on. It is a beautiful thing, and I can understand the Rocky-esque moment of it bringing on the waterworks. I get emotional about these sorts of things, too.
I mean, Lester BEATS cancer AND throws a no-hitter the following year. If that's not Rocky-esque, I don't know what is.
I'm getting emotional now just thinking about it.
However, I don't know how satisfying watching a taped no-hitter would be. But since you also have a subscription to mlb.tv, you should be able to find any no-hitter you want in their archives.
i just want to know where you got that tiny little violin.
